The loan application process to refinance my home mortgage was completed in a timely and competent manner. I can't quote an exact amount of savings that resulted from my membership in the AlumniHomeSavings Program, but I know that I benefited financially as did the Alumni Association. I attended a special NSF-funded program for chemistry teachers at Texas Tech during the summer of 1959 and joined the faculty of TTU in 1969.

After Stacy and I got married, we began the daunting task of combining our two lives. I will admit, I was very naive when it came to mortgages and what all was entailed in a refinance. The first person I consulted was my father who is in the banking business and without a second thought he gave me Neil Rudine's number. I got in touch with Neil and began to explain my situation to him and what I hoped the end result would be. The interest rate we were currently paying was very low, however because of a divorce, and damaged credit, Neil had his work cut out for him if we were going to keep the same rate. Neil explored many different options, sifting through mountains of paperwork and finally came up with a solution. As we were nearing the end of the process, Neil uncovered literally one sentence that made us ineligible for that particular program. Now most people would have thrown up their hands at that point and told us there was no way to get this done without paying a much higher interest rate, Neil however wasn't phased. He immediately went back to work and uncovered a way to buy down our loan in order to slide into a program that was perfect, and we got to keep the rate we started with.
